Follow up after applying without nagging
A practical cadence for post-application follow-ups — timing, what to say, and when to move on.

Silence is normal; guessing is expensive
High-volume hiring teams often take one to three weeks to respond even when you are a strong match. Following up too early can look impatient; never following up can leave a warm lead cold.
A written cadence beats improvising under anxiety.
A simple three-touch plan
Use this unless the posting states a different timeline.
- Day 0: submit the tailored application and log it in your tracker
- Day 5–7: one short follow-up if you have a contact or portal message option
- Day 12–14: one final note with a new proof point, then close the active follow-up
What the message should contain
Restate the role, reference the date you applied, and add one concrete proof point that maps to a must-have — not a paragraph of desperation. Attach or link the same tailored CV you already sent.
If LuminousCV drafted outreach with your Application Kit, reuse the same keywords and facts so the follow-up does not invent a second story.
Know when to stop
Two unanswered follow-ups is enough for most roles. Mark the opportunity closed in your tracker and redirect energy to roles that are still moving. You can reopen the row if they reply later.
Put this into practice
Upload your CV and paste a job description to generate a tailored, ATS-safe draft you can edit before you apply.
